Named Resident of the Year twice during his three-year residency in internal medicine at University Medical Center, Dr. Kelly is appreciated by his colleagues and patients alike for his dedicated, thoughtful approach to medicine and his friendly, approachable demeanor.  Dr. Kelly has over a decade of experience as leader in hospital medicine throughout the southwestern United States and was named by Albuquerque Magazine as one the 8th Annual “Top Docs” of New Mexico in 2012.  In 2013  after relocating to Houston, Texas, Dr. Kelly was named Physician of the Year at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital.

Dr. John Kelly, originally from southern California, attended medical school training in Guadalajara, Mexico where he not only became fully fluent in conversational and medical Spanish, but also became skilled in a medical approach that emphasizes the importance bedside manner and a thorough and thoughtful history and physical examination, instead of relying primarily on expensive testing and imaging.

Dr. Kelly was then selected for the competitive 5th Pathway program that allowed him to train for an additional year at New York Medical College.  Ultimately, he went on to complete an internal medicine residency at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada where he met Sarah Van Epp Kelly, a medical student at the time.

Dr. Kelly is board certified in internal medicine and is fluent in medical and conversational Spanish.  He has special expertise in men’s health and wellness and in the management of diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and metabolic syndrome.  He thoroughly enjoys getting to know his patients and enjoys tackling even the most complex of medical cases.

As a skilled BBQ chef and amateur brewer of beer, Dr. Kelly relaxes by cooking outdoors and spending time with his wife and children.  In his spare time, Dr. Kelly can be found on the golf course, watching college football (he is a longtime Notre Dame fan), or at music concerts with his family.
